As part of the nationwide preparations for Census 2027, Kozhikode District Collector M.S. Madhavikutty has urged residents to complete the online exercise between June 16 and June 30 to ensure accurate and comprehensive data collection.
The self-enumeration process was launched across Kerala on Tuesday (June 16). The theme of Census 2027 is ‘Janakshemam Censusiloode’. Addressing the media, Ms. Madhavikutty said the information collected through the Census forms the basis for planning welfare measures and development programmes.
She said that the Census will be carried out in two phases. The first phase, covering house-listing and housing census operations, will be conducted in Kerala during July 2026 as part of the nationwide exercise scheduled between April and September 2026.
The Collector said the district had completed mapping over 5,205 house-listing blocks and deployed 4,602 enumerators and 888 supervisors. The self-enumeration facility allows residents to submit details online before an enumerator visits their homes.
After registration and verification through a one-time password, users can identify their residence on a digital map, answer the questionnaire, and submit the information.
An 11-digit self-enumeration identification number generated after submission must be shared with the enumerator during the field visit. The Census 2027, the 16th Census conducted in India since 1872 and the eighth after Independence, would mark a significant shift towards digital data collection. The Census, originally scheduled for 2021, was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The exercise is being conducted under the Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner, India, under the Ministry of Home Affairs, while the Directorate of Census Operations is coordinating activities in Kerala.
