Trinamool Congress MP Saugata Roy on Tuesday (June 16, 2026) wrote a letter to the Union Minister of Home Affairs Amit Shah, raising concern over the recent “egg attacks” on the party leaders.
In his letter, Mr. Roy also highlighted the growing violence against the Trinamool Congress leaders and the party offices post the 2026 West Bengal Assembly election.

“You are probably aware that since WB Assembly election results came out on May 4, attacks on TMC workers have been happening in West Bengal. Over 2000 TMC offices have been vandalised, TMC workers beaten up and eggs thrown at TMC leaders. Yesterday (on Monday), TMC offices in ward no.93, Kolkata Corporation, where I stay, were broken up. Police did not do anything, though I lodged a complaint,” Mr. Roy wrote.
However, he specified that the very purpose of his letter is to address the matter after the Beleghata MLA Kunal Ghosh was attacked with eggs in front of the residence of the former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
He said, “I was sitting with Ms. Banerjee along with two MPs Kalyan Banerjee and Derek Obrien and 2 MLAs Kunal Ghosh and sobhandeb Chattopadhyay. We were discussing the political situation. Then Kunal Ghosh rose to go out. He came back after some time and told us that while he was talking to the media outside Ms. Banerjee’s residence, some people threw eggs at time. The eggs touched his face and shirt.”

The MP also said that he immediately lodged a complaint to OC, Kalighat PS, Deputy Commissioner (South) and DG, Security. “I would urge you to ensure that such incidents do not recur, since this brings a bad name to the state Now that BJP has won a big majority in West Bengal, ensuring peace is the responsibility of BJP,” he added.
According to the officials, two people Chandan Koyal and Rabi Koyal were also arrested on Tuesday (June 16, 2026) for hurling eggs on Mr. Ghosh on Monday.
Since the election result on May 4 put an end to the TMC’s 15-year-long regime, people of West Bengal have allegedly found a new way to express their anger by throwing eggs at various leaders who are accused of various corruption and criminal cases.
