Of the 14 Ministers in the reconstituted Karnataka State Cabinet, 13 are crorepatis with their average assets around ₹206.15 crore, according to an analysis by the Association for Democratic Reforms.
A crorepati is one who has total assets worth at least ₹1 crore.
The Karnataka State Cabinet was reconstituted on June 3.
The Association for Democratic Reforms and the Karnataka Election Watch — both NGOs — have analysed the self-sworn affidavits of 13 of the 14 Ministers. The records of one Minister, Kelachandra Joseph George, from the Sarvagnanagar constituency was not analysed due to the unavailability of clear and complete affidavits on the Election Commission’s website.
Criminal cases
According to the report, all 13 (100%) Ministers have declared criminal cases against themselves. Three Ministers (23% of the Cabinet) have declared serious criminal cases against themselves.
The Minister with the highest declared total assets was Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar from the Kanakapura constituency with assets worth ₹1,413.80 crore, while U.T. Khader Fareed from the Mangalore constituency had the lowest declared total assets of ₹6.97 crore.
All 13 (100%) Ministers have declared liabilities, with Mr. Shivakumar topping the list with liabilities of ₹265.06 crore.
Three (23%) Ministers have declared their educational qualification to be between 10th and 12th standard, while 10 (77%) Ministers have declared an educational qualification of graduation or above.
Three (23%) Ministers are aged between 40 and 50, while 10 (77%) Ministers are aged between 51 and 75. There are no women Ministers in the new Cabinet.
