The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has collected ₹157.39 crore in property tax during a special intensive collection drive held between July 3 and 29, 2026. The collection camp will conclude on July 31.
As part of the enforcement measures, civic officials sealed the premises of South India Hotels Private Limited in Egmore, located in Ward 61 of the Royapuram zone, on Wednesday. The action was initiated after the establishment failed to renew its trade licence for the 2026-27 financial year and accumulated property tax arrears amounting to ₹8,38,850.
In a separate action, officials sealed Velavan Stores Silks Private Limited on Usman Road in T. Nagar, falling under Ward 133 of the Kodambakkam zone, over unpaid property tax dues of ₹15,91,494. The premises were subsequently reopened after the firm remitted the entire pending amount.
The civic body has directed all property owners with pending dues to clear their arrears before July 31 to avoid penal interest and further enforcement proceedings.
