India has fuel reserves to cater to more than eighty days of its requirements, said Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Petroleum Minister at the curtain raiser of the India Energy Week (2027) Monday in Kolkata.
“The number of refineries has grown, import terminals have grown and I am sometimes asked why isn’t the country’s SPR bigger?” he stated, adding, “Please combine everything we have more than eighty plus days [worth] of capacity to store.”
He further elaborated that India was not just a major consumer of energy but also actively looking to shape the global conversation.
“Today, India is not only a major centre for energy consumption – it is the third-largest consumer, fourth-largest refining centre – but [also] shaping the global energy conversation,” he stated, pointing to India’s presidency of the BRICS forum alongside initiatives as the International Solar Alliance and the Global Biofuels Alliance, among others.
The latest edition of the annual India Energy Week, 2027 would be held between January 28 and 31 in Kolkata.
