Nipah: one more person on contact list discharged from Kozhikode MCH

One more person on the contact list of the 43-year-old Nipah patient from Ramanattukara has been discharged from the Government Medical College Hospital (MCH), Kozhikode. The lab results of a healthcare worker and a relative of the patient have turned negative for the virus too.

According to a release from the office of Health Minister K. Muraleedharan on Wednesday (June 17, 2026), only four persons on the contact list are under observation at the Kozhikode MCH now. The patient continues to be on ventilator support at the hospital. There are 104 people on the contact list. Blood and nasal swab samples collected from domestic animals and the excretion of bats in the bat-roosting sites in Ramanattukara have been sent to the National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. Members of an Indian Council of Medical Research Team held discussions with doctors at the MCH.
